It might be tricky to get into, but once you master it…hello. Here are three variations.

They say nothing good comes easy, and the bumper cars sex position is no exception. It’s tricky to get into, but once you figure out how to make it work for you, it’s good good. “This position can be a fun challenge to get into,” says sex expert and coach Niki Davis-Fainbloom. “The finer pleasures in life require some finesse, so it will be a real sex win if you can make it work!” Besides, what better way to get closer to your partner than working together toward a shared goal? Said shared goal: Incredible sex.

“To get in this position, the penetrating partner lies on their stomach with their legs spread out. The receiver gets in the same position but puts their legs over the back of their partner's legs,” says Davis-Fainbloom. The bumper car aspect is that your movements look like you’re bumping together. “This position can work for folks of all genders, although typically, one partner has a penis and is anally penetrating the other partner,” she says. This position works with strap-ons, too.

Since bumper cars is an anal sex position, be super careful, as with all butt stuff. Go ~extremely~ slowly and use a ton of lube designed for anal play. (Then add even more.) “Perhaps start by putting a finger inside the anus before attempting penetration, so it is easier to get it in there once you align the genitals,” suggests Davis-Fainbloom. “Make sure that you don’t bend the penis during entry. If anything feels uncomfortable or funky, don’t push it!”

And if the position isn’t working for you, change it up to suit your needs. (We have a couple variations below if you or your partner aren't flexible and/or are anal-averse.)

Classic Bumper Cars

You both lie face down, legs spread apart, and basically back yourselves into each other. “It may take a minute to find the correct position, but once you get there, slowly get in there and let the pleasure ride through you,” says Davis-Fainbloom. A CBD-infused lube can ease the way and make the sensations feel more intense.

Your ass will be getting all kinds of attention, but your clit needs some love too. “You could thoughtfully place a vibrator on the bed so the receiver can receive clitoral and anal stimulation,” says Davis-Fainbloom, who gets it. A rabbit vibrator will also add internal stimulation and give a penis-having partner a little buzz.

If you fear penis breakage or your bodies just refuse to bend that way (understandable!), have the person on top rotate so they’re facing the same direction as the person on the bottom. The penis/strap-will be more naturally aligned to enter the bum, plus this version is good for neck kisses and dirty talk. “If the receiver has a vulva, they can rub against the bed to receive pleasure from multiple erogenous zones at once,” says Davis-Fainbloom.
