“Can I tell you what your name means?” Katy Perry asks over Zoom. We’re here to talk about her non-alcoholic beverage brand De Soi, but I don’t mind a little detour (especially considering her daughter and I have the same name). “You think it’s just a flower, don’t you?” she asks (she’s correct). She continues, “It’s actually derived from Latin: day's eye. It means the sun. So you are the sun.” Casual.

The pop icon explains that she’s always interested in looking for another meaning to just about everything, so, it’s only natural the beverage company she co-founded alongside award-winning distiller Morgan McLachlan would have a name that meets the bill. De Soi, which translates to pleasure with restraint in French, is what Perry and her partner are “all about,” she explains.

If there is fun to be had, Perry wants in, however, she’s aware that her lifestyle has evolved and requires a bit more of a conservative approach to whether she should have that cocktail or not. Her line of sparkling non-alcoholic apéritifs allows her to enjoy the best of both worlds. And with its newest flavor Très Rosé having just launched, the “Teenage Dream” singer wants us all to keep the party going—without next morning’s hangover.

Scroll on to hear how she uses De Soi to let loose in between her busy schedule, how her alcohol detox with partner Orlando Bloom went, and deets *that* viral beer bra she uses on her Las Vegas residency. Ooh la la!

We’re here to talk about your new flavor, Très Rosé, would you say you are a “rosé all day” type of gal?

Well, not during Christmas. But when the sun's out and the buns are out—it feels like the most appropriate drink is a Rosé, white burgundy, or a dry Chablis. I don't love the sugar, though, the sugar doesn't do well with my system where I'm at in my life. With De Soi, not only is it non-alc, but it kind of mimics the vibe and the feeling of like a beautiful Brut Rosé. It also has really low sugar. You know, I'm about being aware of what I'm putting into my body, mostly to maintain feeling because of the bigness of my life and being a mother and all that stuff. It's really about being able to keep that delicate balance intact. So Très Rosé is our fourth flavor, and it is the perfect drink to come right at summertime. [All of our drinks] have adaptogens that kind of take you on an experiential-feeling journey just like alcohol would but with more health benefits.

I’m 24 and I've noticed more and more people my age are beginning to lean towards a sober curious type of lifestyle, is that something that you’ve seen as well?

I would say for me, I just did kind of a three month reset, where now I'm just casually having some tequila here and there or a gin and tonic here and there. But, I needed to reset my body to kind of give it a little break, especially coming up for summer when there's a lot of travel and a lot of leaning into life. I think I would say I'm all about a reset and am sober-curious ish. I respect everybody's relationship with whatever they want to call themselves. For me, I'm highly ambitious still, and a mom of an [almost] three-year-old. You said you're 24? I think that your generation and my generation are just a little bit more entrepreneurial and more ambitious. We love to seize the day and get the most out of life. And so we can't let curveballs knock us off our center. I think that the information in science is just so much more out there about what we put into our body and whether it serves us or brings us down. So I think we're now just more informed as a whole.

Absolutely, I agree. We’re busy women! If you were at a party, and you saw someone debating between going for a cocktail or a can of De Soi, what would be your one liner elevator pitch you’d give them?

If you love the flavor of Rosé, try Très Rosé because it'll take you on the same journey but maybe be more sustainable with better health benefits, less sugar, less calories, and still enhance your mood. And by the way, you'll remember!

I’m sold! You mentioned a three-month detox you recently did with your partner. What was it like doing it alongside him?

Much easier than doing it alone. I mean, I think when you're trying to achieve anything health-wise—whether that's food or drinking—and you’re living under the same roof, it helps to have someone to go through it with you and talk it out. When you’re like, ‘Oh, my God, I'm gonna cave,’ it’s [essential] having a teammate to go, ‘No, you're not! We're gonna do this.’ We made a promise to each other and kept each other accountable. The first six weeks are the hardest because your body really just craves all the old things that it's used to having and then after the six weeks, you don't crave it. Orlando is filming a really intense movie right now that is taking every ounce of his focus, and he cannot be kicked off his center. So I wanted to support him in that. I also knew that I needed a reset before summer. I couldn't just, like, go from the holidays, which seem to be happening earlier and earlier every year, like starting like mid October, and then going to mid January now. I had to really give myself that moment, especially with all that I'm juggling whether it was American Idol and Vegas or making new music or whatever, you know, it's a lot—and don't forget, I'm a mom, hello!

You truly do it all. Speaking of your Vegas residency, I wanted to talk about that beer bra you use. Now, would you ever swap that out for some De Soi?

I think that you have planted the seed for Très Rosé to come out of the ta-tas. Maybe you need to be there for the debut. I have two more runs left in August and October and there's so many fun moments in the show. It's really like just all the songs that people want to hear that it's a big massive sing-along—and it's super playful. I was inspired by, well, I created it during COVID times. And when I was watching a lot of old movies with my nieces like Pee Wee's Playhouse and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and so I was inspired by all those kind of fun family movies and it's a real family show from 8-year-olds to 80-year-olds. Everything is done with a little bit of a wink. I like innuendo. I like walking the line of don't go too far, don't be too inappropriate, but let's keep it spicy. So that's what I do. It's a real fun playful spicy show with all of the hits. And now Très Rosé will be coming out of the tits.

Iconic. You have been so pivotal in your career and you actually “birthed” one of my favorite artists, Niall Horan in 2010. What is it about being a judge that continues to be so fulfilling all these years later?

It’s so funny! That was when I was a guest judge on The X Factor. And before my time on American Idol, I was a guest judge as well, but it’s so interesting. You don't really realize that artists like Niall and Harry Styles came from The X Factor. It takes a little bit of time and evolution for people to become these massive stars, they don't just get chosen to go on a competition or win a thing—it takes an evolution. It's like years and years and 10,000 hours plus of doing something to be excelling in your field. So I've loved being on American Idol in the past and being a mentor and using all of the wisdom that I've been able to accrue over 15 years and giving it as a cheat sheet to these kids and really supporting them on their journey. Even if they don't win, or if they don't get into the top five, at least they go home with whatever they were supposed to go home with. Whether that is like actual belief in themselves or confidence or like mastering their skill or an inspiration to find their authentic self. They maybe thought they came to win but they actually got something else they came for.
