Alright let's just accept it: The "Mermaidcore" revolution is here, and it's showing absolutely no signs of departure. For one, it's introduced a wealth of out-of-the-sea-inspired looks, from iridescent chrome nails to shell earrings to pearl clutches to blinding highlighter. But there's absolutely no reason why your hair should be left out of the conversation. If summer 2023 is officially mermaid season, consider the Bubble & Seashell Braids in this episode of The Braid Up the official protective style to mark the times. With it's voluminous structure and top-tier accessories, this one might just have an angry sea witch after you. Check out stylist Tiffany Anderson's spin on the look in this episode, and read on for the scoop on how you can make these work!

1. Prep your hair by blow-drying it. ICYMI, you'll need to get box braids before creating this bubble look. So to make braiding a breeze, come to the salon prepared after wash day with stretched hair. Give your roots a deep clean with a sulfate-free clarifying shampoo, then load up on deep conditioner, detangle, and let it ~marinate~ for 30 minutes. Then, smooth on a heat protectant and blow out your hair in sections with a blow dryer and a round brush (or try a hair-dryer brush for an all-in-one situation).

2. Opt for textured extension hair. To mirror the look in today's episode, you'll want to grab a few packs of textured kanekalon hair to wrap over your box braids to create the voluminous "bubble" look.

3. Strong rubber bands = less stress. Obvi we don't want hair ties popping out while you're wearing this style out and about. To ensure that you're not constantly replacing bands and having to recreate your bubbles, invest in a pack of extra-strong rubber bands. No band breaks, no problem.

4. Spritz on some hairspray to keep the shape intact. It's the product that'll help keep everything in order. If you notice flyaways popping up, coat your bubbles in a strong-hold hairspray to keep them smooth and shiny.
